Setting up a print queue
You can create print queues for printers connected over either TCP/IP or AppleTalk. Users select an AppleTalk queue in the Chooser, and a TCP/IP queue using the Desktop Printer Utility (which comes with Mac OS 8.1 or later). Print jobs are stored in a queue until the print server sends them to an attached printer. You can create up to 10 print queues to serve multiple workgroups, offer additional print choices, or improve printing performance. You can attach up to 30 printers to a queue.
Guidelines for creating a print queue Every PostScript™ printer comes with a PostScript printer description (PPD) file that describes the features and capabilities of the printer. When you attach the first printer to an AppleTalk queue, the print server assigns that printer's PPD file to the queue. (TCP/IP print queues do not use the PPD file.)
